Department of Photonic Materials
The Sol-Gel Group (SGG) is formed by Researchers from the Department of Photonic Materials of the Madrid Institute of Materials Science (ICMM), part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
The interdisciplinary research of the SGG covers a very broad spectrum, ranging from basic materials chemistry to their possible application as optical or electrooptical devices and novel materials for scientific space missions.
Our activity focuses on the preparation of new materials via the Sol-Gel method, the characterization of their physicochemical properties, and their application in advanced functional coatings for smart windows, UV protection, optical sensors, photochromic devices, and many other areas.

XVII International Sol-Gel Conference
The splendid “Puerta de Alcala”, a neo-classical monument in the “Independence Square” in Madrid
The XVII International Sol-Gel Conference (Chair David Levy and co-Chair Marcos Zayat) was held on August 25-30, 2013 in Madrid, Spain. The biennial conference gathered the most relevant and innovative advances in the field of Sol-Gel Science and Technology from the point of view of scientific research and industrial developments. SG2013 provided the growing Sol-Gel community with an up-to-date overview of the worldwide achievements of this exciting research area. The Conference was organized in conjunction with the International Sol-Gel Society.
